The Challenges Faced by Women Who Serve
Women in the military have a long history of service, dating back to the Revolutionary War. Today, Female Veterans still face unique challenges that are not often acknowledged. While men make up the majority of veterans, women are estimated to account for 10% of the veteran population this year.
Women in the military often perform the same duties as their male counterparts. They served as pilots, soldiers, and combat medics. They are also at risk of sexual harassment and assault, which is often underreported.
Returning to civilian life can also be difficult for Female Veterans. Many face a lack of support from family and friends that don’t understand what they have gone through. Financial hardships and a lack of healthcare are also common issues.
However, Female Veterans are also resilient and strong. They have shown they can excel in any field, including the military. Many have advocacy groups, such as the Service Women’s Action Network that help to raise awareness of the issues specific to women who serve.
It is important to recognize the sacrifices and contributions of all who serve in the military, including Female Veterans. By supporting them, we show recognition of their brave efforts and help them adjust to civilian life.
