About Australian Exploration Drilling
Exploration drilling is used to discover possible mineral ore deposits or gems, such as diamonds. This type of drilling can be used both in water and on land to determine geologic properties or even show the boundaries of lakes or reservoirs. This drilling comes in several forms and it less destructive that full-scale mining operations. Australian exploration drilling is used to determine if oil or mining operations should continue in certain areas of the country and sometimes even offshore.
Exploratory drilling can be conducted by drilling slim holes or exploratory wells. The drilling is conducted by a machine that is obviously much smaller than true drilling rigs. Samples can be taken of the earth and any fluids and then analyzed for content. This type of drilling can also check temperature and pressure of fluids, which can help determine flow rates of liquids, such as oil or water. Exploration is often one of the first steps in any mining operation.
