January 23, 2012 UPDATE: We’ve raised 50% of our Chip In budget goal & we are SO thankful to everyone who helped us reach that mark. We’re going to continue running the Chip In fundraiser for 1 more month to give our new fans & customers a chance to score some of the great Chip In Rewards.

Two years ago – when a fire destroyed Hut 1.0 – we were overwhelmed by the support of our friends & fans via the ChipIn widget. We raised enough money to keep our house & bills paid for a couple of months while we worked on opening Hut 2.0.

Two years later – we find ourselves working on the third incarnation of the Hut. Quite frankly – any sane person would have given up by now – but we are passionate about making high quality from scratch traditional BBQ & believe this community needs a place like the Hut.

Every version of the Hut has been bootstrapped – our own money without a single loan or grant – & Hut 3.0 is no different. While we are aware of a variety of local programs offering financial assistance to small businesses – we are also aware of the political strings & red tape attached to those programs. We do not have the time to wait for grants & loans. We have put together a great deal of the Hut 3.0 budget from our own accounts & a kind loan from Frank’s brother – but the reality is we need a bit more.

Even so – we are at the end of our budgeted funds with a few things still left to do to finish CCH3.

We want to fill our budget gap by having our friends & fans – & hopefully their friends & fans – participate in a bit of local crowd funding. We want you to chip in & in exchange we’ll offer great rewards for your donation. We’re not asking for a loan. This is not an investment. It is a way for you to chip in & get a gift in exchange. Think of us as the PBS of legendary BBQ without the tote bags.

We want to make this clear – we are NOT asking for a hand out. This is a pledge drive.
